Daniel & Ethan found me in July of 2014 through the awesome website A Practical Wedding. Since they live and work in Maryland, they needed an ally “on the ground” in LA. I was delighted to plan their wedding at The Mountain Mermaid with them from beginning to end.
Daniel & Ethan are both college professors, so the timing was a priority. “We need to get married on our Spring Break,” they said. Our target date ended up as their wedding date: March 14, 2015, aka Pi Day.
The Mountain Mermaid was the perfect location for Daniel and Ethan, a historian. At various points in its history, The Mountain Mermaid has been a boarding school, a casino run by Mickey Cohen, and a private gay bar in the 1950’s! It feels like someone’s lush private residence, so cozy and warm! And everywhere you look…mermaids.
We got lucky with a beautiful dry and sunny day for Daniel & Ethan. They chose to spend the morning getting ready together.
And then took some photos.
This bouquet is one of my absolute favorites all year long! The Enchanted Florist did such a great job on the personal flowers!
In short order, it was time for the ceremony! One of my favorite moments of Daniel & Ethan’s wedding was the processional. In a same-sex wedding, traditions are what you make them. Since Ethan’s mother has passed, he chose to walk down the aisle with all three of his sisters, greeting and adding them to his walk, one by one. It was a gorgeous moment, and so special for everyone.
Daniel took his walk down the aisle with his mom.
Ceremony time, under a big beautiful tree.
After the ceremony, a little private time for the grooms…while their guests enjoy cocktail hour, poolside.
On Pi Day, do you serve a wedding cake? NO! You serve mini-pies!
Daniel & Ethan, I cannot believe it has been almost a year since your intimate and heartfelt wedding day. We loved every moment of creating this wedding with you, and we hope you look back on this day with fond memories forever!
